Autumn Term 2019

Welcome to our Y6 class for 2019-2020!

As we start a new term there is a lot to look forward to. Children will complete their cardboard boat ready for the race on the Barbican on Saturday 14th September 2019.  Come along and support the Y6 Victoria Road team from 09:00 for registration and at 09:30 for the first primary race.

We will have a few trips this term. Our first, will be an evacuation trip to Calstock. Children will be invited to dress for the day as an evacuee, in evacuee costumes. We hope to gain funding from Devon Rail Partnership to go on the train from St.Budeaux station to Calstock. The trip will be on Tuesday 15th October 2019 and a normal school start and finishing time.

Obviously Y6 is a very busy year, when we prepare the children for their SATs in May. There will assessments early on in the Autumn term that will support planning and intervention needs for each individual. We hope that we will have the opportunity to meet as many parents as we can at the 'Meet the Teacher'session after school in September (dates TBC). We will then give you more information on SATs and support that can be given to your child during Y6 to prepare for these tests.

Maths and English homework and spellings will be given weekly, along with (in the autumn term) a larger WW2 artefact homework for our "Parent Share Y6 Museum" later in the term.

Please encourage your child to read each night, children can then test themselves in school the following day (if they complete their book) using Accelerated Reader.

They are enrolled on accelerated Reader which provides comprehension quizzes.  The results of these can be viewed at home.

Children use a software program called Renaissance Place at school. This program has a special feature called Renaissance Home Connect, which you can access outside of school from any computer with an Internet connection. Renaissance Home Connect is fun and easy to use. It allows the teacher, and you to share information about children's progress in Accelerated Reader.  You can log in to Renaissance Home Connect from any computer with an Internet connection and compatible browser. Children have been given their user names and passwords.  To log in to Renaissance Home Connect Website: https://Ukhosted102.renlearn.co.uk/2236540/HomeConnect
