Home Learning
Every week, all children across Key Stage 2 are expected to complete home learning.
For more information about Home Learning please refer to your child's 'Home Learning' page in their Reading Diary.
1. Reading
All children are expected to read three times at home to an adult. Please ensure that every time after reading, your child's reading diary is signed by an adult (parent/family member/guardian).
Please listen to your child's fluency and tone whilst reading and encourage them to use a 'story-telling voice' when reading aloud. Also, question your child on what they have just read, so they can practise retrieving facts from the text and predicting what might happen next - using evidence from the text.
Year 5 reading diaries, need to be in school every day so they can be checked. Pupils must have read three times by Friday.
From this reading, your child will be able to complete quizzes on the book they have just read. The pass rate is 80%.
When your child has achieved five passes on an AR reading level, they will be able to move up to the next reading level.
Accelerated Reader certificates will be awarded to children who have passed 15 (bronze); 30 (silver); 45 (gold); and 60+ (platinum) quizzes. Their names will also appear on our 'Champions Wall'.
2. Spellings
Weekly spellings will be sent home on Friday and can be practised in 2 different ways (paper or online via Spelling Shed) before the spelling test on FRIDAY MORNINGS.
All children will have 10 spellings a week; however, this may slightly vary due to children's confidence in spelling.
3. Maths Home Learning
Maths Home Learning - this is practising their Times Tables on TTRS or you can help your child through quizzing them orally (e.g. 'What is 6x7?)
