Our topic this term is World War 2 and we will be integrating our topic work into all areas of the curriculum. It is a very busy year with high expectations.
English- We have been reading the book "Letters from the Lighthouse". This book focuses on the evacuation of children, from London to Devon, in WW2. The book will inspire several pieces of writing and focus learning on use of language, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Maths-We have been looking at place value, reading writing and ordering numbers up to 10,000,000. The next block of learning will be looking at the four operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In addition, we will revise our times tables through games, "Beat that Maths" and "Times Tables Travels".
Science- We will be learning about light linked to WW2 and making lighthouses, inspired by our reading book in English sessions.
Computing- We will be learning the importance of e safety and then starting our coding unit.
RE- we will be learning about Jewish traditions and what it means to belong. We will also be visiting the Synagogue.
Music- we will be learning "Living on a Prayer" with use of percussion instruments, songs for harvest and our assembly in November.
PE- Outdoor PE is on Monday and Indoor PE is on Tuesday. Indoor PE this year will be basketball with Plymouth Raiders. Please can you ensure you have appropriate kit in school on these days which is a white t-shirt (round neck) or a blue polo shirt, dark shorts and trainers or plimsolls.
Please ensure that children are wearing school shoes to school and not trainers.
A great evacuation trip to Calstock, children looked fab in their evacuee outfits.
Children need to give in their WW2 homework before half term and we will be inviting parents in to share their work after half term. Date to be confirmed.
