Autumn Term 2018
Our topic this term is WW2. We will be integrating our topic work into all areas of the curriculum.
Monday 26th November:
Y6 Evacuation to Calstock. All children to come dressed as a child in WW2. We will evacuate the children to Calstock. Here we will explore the village and learn about life as an evacuee. A letter will come home with information about possible costumes and costings for the day. The Devon Rail Partnership are funding our train journey, the only cost will be the hire of the Old Chapel, in the Village, as our base for the day.
Wednesday 28th November:
WW2 Museum parent share: Parents are invited in from 2pm to explore our own WW2 exhibits and artefacts. These exhibits have been created by Y6 who will guide you through their creations. Following the museum, there will be an opportunity to indulge in a cream tea whilst listening to poems and songs from WW2, performed beautifully by Y6.
Friday 11th January (pm, timing to be confirmed)
Year 6 Assembly.
Topics for the Term:
English- We will read "Letters from the Lighthouse" linked to our topic of WW2. All SPAG will be drawn from the text.
Maths-Our fist topic this term will be "Place Value". We will revise the value of digits and write numbers in words and figures.
Science-Our topic is "Light and how we see things".
Computing- We will be focusing on keeping ourselves safe when on the internet and online media through e-safety. We will start our coding unit.
RE- We will learn about Judaism.
Music- We will follow the Charanga scheme of work and we will learn songs from WW2.
PE- Indoor PE will be on a Monday. Our Tuesday session will be outdoor games. Please can you ensure you have appropriate kit in school on these days which is a white t-shirt (round neck) or a blue polo shirt, dark shorts and trainers or plimsolls.
Please ensure that children are wearing school shoes to school and not trainers.
