Spring Term 2019
We hope that you all had a fantastic Christmas and are rested and ready for a busy term.
The spring term is always a busy term that leads us towards SATS. Please ensure all children arrive to school on time. Any support at home with additional revision is always really beneficial. If you require any information on suitable resources, please don't hesitate to come and see one of the year 6 team.
Friday 11th January 2:15 pm.
Year 6 Assembly, we will need the children to bring in their evacuation outfits for this assembly.
During the first full week back, letters will be sent out to individuals inviting them to attend Monday morning maths interventions from 8:30 am. They will have the opportunity for magic breakfast when we return to class at roughly 9 am.
Monday 14th January 2019
We have been given the opportunity for the children to learn some basic first aid. They will be working with the Red Cross 14.1.19 during the afternoon.
Monday 21st January 2019
The African Children's choir will be visiting Victoria Road on Monday 21st January 2019. We will celebrate the event with a day of international songs, food and languages.
Topics for the Term:
English- We will look at the features of newspapers and read "Kensuke's Kingdom" by Michael Morpurgo. All SPAG will be drawn from the text.
Maths-Our fist topic this term will be "Decimals". We will look at adding and subtracting decimals and use place value counters to understand the values of each digit.
Science-Our topic is "Animal including humans". We will learn about the human circulatory system and how the heart and the lungs work.
Computing- We will be focusing on keeping ourselves safe when on the internet and online media through e-safety. We will start our coding unit.
RE- Beliefs in action in the World. In this unit pupils gain a knowledge and understanding about Christian and Jewish teachings on behaviour and action. They develop their own understanding that Christians and Jews base their behaviour on key religious teachings. Through exploring this pupils will develop their understanding that beliefs affect action and behaviour.
Music- We will follow the Charanga scheme of work and we will learn songs and use the glockenspiel to play along to the music.
PE- Indoor PE will be on a Thursday. Our Tuesday session will be delivered by Raiders. Please can you ensure you have appropriate kit in school on these days which is a white t-shirt (round neck) or a blue polo shirt, dark shorts and trainers or plimsolls.
Please ensure that children are wearing school shoes to school and not trainers.
